“So, to all the girls that’s hurting, let me be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer, the light that shines within.” – Alessia Cara “Scars to your beautiful.”
Here's a truth nugget
I think too many of us feel alone in our struggles and I think social media plays a role (I have a whole lot to say about social media in my next blog post). I have been through some intense struggles in my life and for many of them I felt alone until, through age and wisdom, I realized I wasn't alone. I learned through my struggles that being transparent with those very close to me and asking for support and help is what helps us through our struggles. When I was younger, I went through my trials alone. I hid my emotions (UNHEALTHY) and I felt I needed to go through those alone, because I didn't want to burden others with my problems. That was the biggest mistake. (I have an entire post about transparency and vulnerability and how important they are for our own mental health).
Another truth nugget
Stars can't shine without darkness.
Now that you understand you are unique and you’ve vowed to punch comparison in the jugular, I want you to grab your favorite snack, curl up in your favorite spot and listen to Alessia Cara’s song, “Scars to Your Beautiful.” Alessia’s song has played a large role in my decision to write and encourage each and every one of you.
I hope this blog will be the mirror to help you see a little bit clearer, the light that shines within you. Every one of us has different experiences in life, different relationships (some healthy, some unhealthy), different obstacles, different mindsets. I want you to know that despite what you have experienced in your short life or what you will experience, it doesn’t define you.
Regardless of the good, the bad, and the ugly, you have a choice to rise up and live life to the fullest. It’s hard for us sometimes to see our worth and to understand that we truly can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Some of us experience bigger obstacles, people in our lives who hinder us, and a number of things that hold us back, but I hope that I can teach you that we all go through hard times, hard relationships and struggles because they make us stronger. Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light. Stars can’t shine without darkness.
Regardless of your current mindset or your past experiences, you have a light within you. A light that the world needs and you are capable of mighty things. Think about this quote by Vern P. Stanfill for a moment, “There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light.” Let’s find your light so you can overcome the darkness.
